The sea sprawled out before her ship
Great surges whipped the water quick
Salting the dock beneath her boots
Her gaze locked on her goal, barely seen:
An fog-ridden island,
Far beyond the normal atolls

Her vessel, a finer specimen than all,
Carefully constructed through many an autumn,
Gleamed in the rain from bolts of lightning
A fiery storm; an impenetrable barrier
“Impossible to reach—to do alone.”
She was told, never thrown a bone.

A maiden voyage, a violent sea
Tearing the ocean as far as eye could see
Begged not to go, she ignored them all
She had to go; she did what she could:
Food, water, wood, pitch
All to be used in case of a hitch.

About to cast sail, her family appeared
“We’re not here to argue, we’re here to give thanks:
Your passion has ignited us all.”
She teared up, not knowing what to say,
Understanding her silence, they gave their blessing
And she set off, her want now a blazing inferno.
