General Overview:
Shortened to the “A’ib”
The diplomats of the Coalition of Andromeda. This species has a generally friendly demeanor—to the species inside the coalition, that is. To humans on their first time seeing them, their features are usually seen as frightening. Once time is spent with them, however, humans join the ranks of species that find their presence calming.
History
A’ib’ke’pa were the first one of their sub-species—and the only one of their species to survive the destruction of their planet—to successfully break free from their chains created by another sub-species. Before A’ib, all this species has known was slavery, and because of that, now that they had an societal identity, they collectively decided to name themselves “the A’ib’ke’pa” to commemorate A’ib.
A brief, pre-CA, history
The turmoil the A’ib’ke’pa went through is not to be understated. With years spent under the servitude of the Ho’b1, there came a point where a span of five generations knew nothing but the torment delivered by the Ho’b. During this time, there were attempts to escape, which was unusual for the Collection—the A’ib’ke’pa, unnamed then, were the first slave sub-species that put actual effort into escaping. The Ho’b, in their over confidence built over years of complacency and no change, ignored this to the benefit of the A’ib, allowing them to formulate an escape from their horrendous treatment.
Bullet notes of the basic history to complete independence (expand later):
- Found safe place to temporarily hide
- realized the only way to survive was to get off planet
- dug deep underground as a way to hide until their spaceship was complete
- Side note: their species is at a point where they are comparable to 22nd century humans.
- Managed to escape the planet—not without some causalities, of course.
- Landed on a planet in a near-by system and settled there.
- Learned that the planet was already claimed by another species, which was in the Coalition of Andromeda.
- The other species look advantage of this (there were laws against the amount of planets one species could own related to population. This species population had been declining for a while) and gave them the planet.
- Shortly after, the A’ib’ke’pa joined the Coalition.
Naming
The names of the A’ib follow a set of rules.
- The first syllable of their names is chosen by the A’ib when they reach adult. This makes identifying children easy as their names are only three syllables.
- The second syllable is from the name of the group who conceived the child, something collectively decided on by the group.
- Historically, the last two syllables were decided by star positions and how the child was born. Now, the third syllable represents the planet from which they are from (if the planet name is more than one syllable, then the first unique syllable of that name is used), and the fourth syllable represents which city or section of that planet they are from (same multi-syllable rules apply). The reason behind this choice is because it made legal documents easier to parse; the A’ib thrive on efficiency.
Quirks of the A’ib’ke’pa
- Bōf, a fruit originating from the A’ib’s escape planet Letho, has an odd quality that causes it to cheer up all but the most sullen or disturbed A’ib when eaten.
Footnotes
-
The Ho’b are another sub-species of the now extinct Collection. While the A’ib’ke’pa originated from the collection, they are distinct enough from them that in klor 197 (about the year 1539 A.D. for the humans), the Central Government for the Coalition unanimously declared them their own species, putting into law what was already commonly accepted. ↩
